How do I get my HDTV to receive digital tv?

Posted by admin on July 11th, 2010 and filed under digital tv | 2 Comments »

I have a Sony Bravia HDTV. It has a built in tuner already installed. How do i get my HDTV to recieve digital TV? I have a antenna on the roof. All i could see is static. What should i do?

Make sure your outdoor antenna is connected to the UHF or AIR antenna connection and NOT the CABLE connection.

Go into your menu, look for the CHANNELS icon…select it

NOW make sure your tuner is setup for AIR or UHF and NOT CABLE.
If you have a Cable ON/OFF mode turn it OFF.

NOW….Autoprogram it, and when finished make sure your Antenna button on the remote control is set for AIR and NOT CABLE

    Too many buttons eh?

After the conversation to Digital TV, will I still be able to listen to the audio carrier on my handheld?

Posted by admin on July 8th, 2010 and filed under digital tv | 1 Comment »

I listen to the current analog TV audio with my handheld radio, but if I understand correctly Digital TV Signals include the audio carrier in the digital signal. That is why it can provide 5.1 surround.

The entire television signal will be using digital modulation. This includes the audio part. Your analog handheld won’t be able to demodulate it.

What is a good site to compare indoor digital TV antenna?

Posted by admin on July 6th, 2010 and filed under digital tv | 3 Comments »

I live in the suburbs (no big tall buildings) and just want to get a decent signal on the majority of channels. I just want a good indoor digital tv antenna. Suggestions on sites that compare them that are free?

Most indoor antennas are garbage. If you can manage it, try to get an outdoor VHF/UHF antenna.

What do you think about the delay Congress put on the digital tv switch?

Posted by admin on July 3rd, 2010 and filed under digital tv | 5 Comments »

Government agencies, consumer groups, television broadcasters and other parts of the industry have invested more than $1 billion over the past several years to educate consumers about the shift to digital broadcasting. The message all along has been that analog signals would be shut off on Feb. 17. This aggressive campaign has pushed consumer awareness rates well above 90 percent, they have been working for almost three years to educate consumers that this is the day that will be the digital tv switch. How are they going to recreate that? It will also be costly — forcing the government and industry to pour more resources into additional public service announcements and outreach efforts. At this time, with the economy struggling like this, why do they need to worry about people being unprepared for a tv switch, there are radios and by now they should be well prepared. Shouldn’t the government be more concerned about more important issues? Opinion?

True to their nature, the government has just wasted millions of dollars because they fear that 4.5% of the population doesn’t have their digital converter. How do they know that anyway? I say tough. Switch it on the 17th and forget about it.

Delay Coming to Digital TV Switch

Posted by admin on June 30th, 2010 and filed under digital tv | 25 Comments »

The transition from analog to digital television broadcasting will be pushed back by four months, after members of Congress became concerned too many viewers would see their sets go dark next month. (Jan. 27)

How do you fix a slow and distorted digital TV picture?

Posted by admin on June 30th, 2010 and filed under digital tv | 1 Comment »

I bought a new digital tv and antenna. I hooked everything up and it seems as if the channels are slow and at times distorted. It looks like when a dvd messes up with all those little squares. Is it just the antenna or is there something else I could do? Thanks!

It could be a combination of things, but my initial impression is that your input signal source (your antenna) is not providing a strong enough signal for your TV. If possible, you should try to determine if the antenna is the source of your problem by connecting a known good signal source (like a cable or satellite signal) to the TV. If you have the same issues – then the TV itself may be defective. If you get good picture quality and stability with the alternate input source, then the problem is with the antenna. How does the TV work with a DVD, VCR, DVR, or game system connected?

If the TV itself is the problem – return it to where you bought it for an exchange or refund. If the antenna seems to be the problem – return it where you bought it and get a better model, possibly one with a built-in amplifier.

As far as the channel changes being slow, this is a common issue with digital TVs. It is a function of the design of the electronic circuitry itself. Most digital tuners will not change channels as fast as an analog (old style) tuner knob. Good luck.
