PROBLEM with sky box?

I have got this sky box: DRX550 BSkyB

i do not have a sky line or anything. got this sky box from a friend. i was told that i can get freeview channels using this box but i am not getting any?

what do i have to do?

i connected my tv to the wall socket and then my tv to the sky box. got power on in everything but still cant get any free channels. i just get 5 channels( which i can get without sky box).

any idea, please help.

The only way your going to get any use out of the sky box is to have a mini dish connected to is giving it a signal feed they wont work without one you cant connect them to a normal aerial or a cable socket different technology so until you’ve done that you have acquired a nifty door stop

    you have been duped my Friend unless you subscribe to sky you get naff all
    it’s an old ntl box you need and then you must have the cable into you’re home and then again it’s only 5 channels you get

    If you’ve got a SKY box you need a SKY SATELLITE DISH to receive the additional channels. If you haven’t got a dish what you need is a FREEVIEW box, and possibly an aerial upgrade

    Well, I don’t have satellite, but I’m pretty sure you’re missing your receiver. IE: the Dish. You may be able to get some free-to-view channels once it’s all hooked up, but you still need to receive a signal from a satellite to get said channels.
    If your wall socket is from the local Cable company, rather then to a dish on the roof, then you would not receive a satellite signal.
    Hope that helps, used dishes are pretty cheep now a days if that’s what you’re missing, good luck installing and calibrating it though. ^_^

    You need a dish and it also needs to be connected to a telephone line. I don’t think it will work without you joining Sky.

    mine works ok I dont subscribe to sky or have a viewing cardI take it you got it connected to a dish ?

    I have 86 channels including radio.

    you dont need to connect it to a telephone line. thats old news.

    try rescanning frrom the system set up menu
